REGIME OF REFUGEES IN ROMANIA. THE LEGAL FRAMEWORK AND ITS RECENT DEVELOPMENTS
Journal Title: Challenges of the knowledge society ( Provocari ale societatii cunoasterii ) - Year 2017, Vol 9, Issue 11
Abstract
The present paper offers a general overview of the legal framework of the Romanian asylum system and of its most recent developments, trigerred by the ”refugee crisis” that created turmoils and generated debates at the European and international levels. Although traditionally a transit country for migrants, that remained largely unaffected by the crisis, the controversies around the issue and the perspective of an increase of the migration flow, represented an incentive for the adoption of measures at national level, aiming to improve the asylum system and the perspectives of social integration of those who were granted a form of international protection. This study aims to highlight these developments and to place them in a larger international/European context.
