Relation of Variables Structure Dasometric with Foliage and Fruit Production in Tropical Tree Forage Legumes in Mexico
Journal Title: Journal of Veterinary Advances - Year 2012, Vol 2, Issue 7
Abstract
Were related variables dasometric structure with the production of foliage on trees Pithecellobium dulce (Roxb. Benth.), Gliricidia sepium (Kunth) and Haematoxylum brasiletto (H. Karst) and fruit production in P. dulce and Acacia cochliacantha (Willd). Dasometric measurements of the trees: height (h), basal diameter (BD) and diameter at breast height (DBH) were performed using tape, and electronic inclinometer in six ranches in a total of 24 transects of a hectare, more 24 lines transects 100 m linear canfield. The production of foliage and fruit trees was assessed in four adults with manual harvesting nondestructive method. Among the species was P. dulce which was more dasometric development and production of foliage and fruit. The correlation was positive between height BD and DBH with foliage production (r = 0.91 to 0.94, P <0.001) and fruit (r = 0.82 to 0.96, P <0.01), respectively. In simple regression analysis showed a significant positive relationship between the h (P <0.01), BD (P <0.001) and DBH (P <0.01) with the production of foliage but no significant fruit production. Multiple regression analysis determined that the production of foliage and fruit of the tree is explained in a 91.0% (P <0.001) and 93.7% (P <0.01), respectively, by the h, BD and DBH, results that gave high precision the model prediction. We conclude that the height, BD and DBH are dasometric development variables that can be used to estimate foliage and fruit production in trees in silvopastoral systems.
