Relationships between stomatal conductance and yield under deficit irrigation in maize (Zea mays L.)
Journal Title: Journal of Experimental Biology and Agricultural Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 5, Issue 0
Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the adaptability of maize hybrids under water deficit condition by measuring of stomatal conductance with the corresponding yield of maize hybrids. Seven maize hybrids were grown at two different irrigation regimes (well water and deficit water conditions) at the agricultural research area of Cukurova University, Adana, Turkey. The results of study indicated that at drought stress (deficit water) remarkably influenced maize yield. The hybrid Sancia produced maximum grain yield under water deficient condition while 71May69 hybrid achieved the higher yield under wellwatered condition. Stomatal conductance was strongly correlated with grain yield in this study and higher stomatal conductance indicates higher grain yield, higher stomatal conductance at 7 days after pollination helps to increase grain yield. A positive and significant correlation between grain yield and stomatal conductance was observed at 7th and 21st days after anthesis (DAA). Moderately high stomatal conductance under stress condition helps to produce the highest grain yield. Based on the results, stomatal conductance can be used as selection criterion to identify the drought stress genotypes in maize under Mediterranean condition.

EFFECT OF IAA PRODUCED BY PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA 6A (BC4) ON SEED GERMINATION AND PLANT GROWTH OF GLYCIN MAX
The expansion of organic agriculture has increased the demand for alternatives to chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Compared with non- rhizospheric, bacteria from rhizosphere are likely to synthesize and release auxin...
Adjuvant improves the efficacy of herbicide for weed management in maize sown under altered sowing methods
Field experiment was performed to investigate the effect of adjuvant on efficacy of herbicides for weed management in maize under different sowing methods. Urea as an adjuvant was used to increase the efficacy of atrazin...
Dickkopf-1 serum levels in Saudi boys with cerebral palsy and correlations with body mass index and bone turnover markers
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a common disorder in children. Dickkopf-1 (Dkk1) inhibits the canonical Wnt signaling pathway. The study aimed to assess the serum levels of Dkk1 in boys with CP and to evaluate its correlations wi...
Effect of papaya and storage time on the quality of the newly developed papaya crackers
Crispy nutritious papaya crackers were developed from locally available papaya and whole wheat flour by baking in oven at 130oC for 35 min. Crackers were packed in high density polyethylene pouches and stored under ambie...
