Removal of Sr2+ from aqueous solutions by adsorbent activated carbon of almond shell

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 8, Issue 11

Abstract

In this paper, removal of Sr2+ from aqueous solutions with prepared adsorbent activated carbon of almond shell was investigated. The prepared adsorbent were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and BET surface area analysis. The kinetic and isotherm of Sr2+ adsorption were studied. The effects of operational parameter such as pH, adsorbent dosage and contact time on the process were studied and optimized. The experimental results showed that Sr2+ adsorption onto adsorbent followed Langmuir isotherm. Adsorption kinetics of Sr2+ onto the adsorbent followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.
