Repellent potential of Azadirachta indica A. Juss. and Glycyrrhiza glabra L. against cowpea bruchid, Callosobruchus chinensis L. (Coleoptera: Bruchidae)
Journal Title: Journal of Biodiversity and Environmental Sciences (JBES) - Year 2014, Vol 5, Issue 1
Abstract
Keeping in view the bio-friendly nature of plant extracts, experiments were designed to determine the toxicological and repellent effects of Azadirachta indica and Glycyrrhiza glabra against the insect pest of stored beans, Callosobruchus chinensis (Coleoptera: Bruchidae). For determination of repellent action, area preference method was adopted. In the method of area preference, half of filter paper was treated with serial concentrations of plant extracts. After the release of beetles and their response against the plant extracts, results highlighted potential of crude extracts towards creating a repellent zone for the storage beetle. After the experiments, it was found that the A. indica was more potent as compared to the G. glabra.

Impact of bio-fertilizers and different levels of lead on pigment content of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)
Among heavy metals, lead is a potential pollutant that readily accumulates in soils and sediments. Although lead is not an essential element for plants, it gets easily uptake, accumulated in different plants sections an...
Comparative study of endo-parasites from fecal samples of sambar (Rusa unicolor) and goral (Naemorhedus goral) in captivity
This project was designed to study the prevalence of endo-parasites in Sambar (Rusa unicolor) and Goral (Naemorhedus goral) kept at Jallo Wildlife Park and Lahore Zoo, Punjab, Pakistan. Fresh faecal samples were collec...
Molecular taxonomy and phylogeny of Silene species (Caryophyllaceae) using DNA-based markers
DNA markers have provided valuable tools in various analyses ranging from phylogenetic analysis to the positional cloning of genes. Silene is a genus of flowering plant in the family Caryophyllaceae. This study compare...
Assessment of irrigation water quality of Tono Dam in Navrongo, Ghana
Water used for irrigation remains unnoticed when the quality level is changing. Irrigation water is a major source of water for plant growth when rainfall is insufficient. Some important physio-chemical parameters of To...
