Reproduction of Expressiveness of Lexical Units Translating Texts of Political Discourse

Abstract

The power struggle as the main motive of political activity is impossible without political communication. A politician’s success largely depends on how convincingly his speech sounded. The speech consistency, clarity and sequence are important, but in the speech to a mass audience of no less importance is emotionality, the ability to inspire and involve the audience. The article deals with the political lexicon in the translation aspect, techniques of reproduction of linguistic means of expression of the modern English political discourse on the material of political articles posted in the Internet. The expression is treated as the demonstration of a speaker's personality, which is manifested in emotions and assessments, is realized through language means and has an effect on a recipient. Political discourse is the display of the whole complex of relations between the individual and society. Thus the expression of political texts is aimed at the formation of recipients’ defined picture of the world. The analysis of works on the issue of the classification of the political lexicon within the framework of the translation approach indicates that it contains political terms, realities, symbols, new terms, new realities, and new symbols. Translating this lexicon the following techniques are used: transliteration, transliteration and explication, loan translation, and descriptive translation.
