RESEARCH ACTIVITIES OF THE LVIV ENDOCRINOLOGICAL SCHOOL: EXPERIENCE AND PERSPECTIVES

Abstract
In 1947, Lviv Endocrinological School was founded. The article includes a brief description of the achievements and activities of Lviv Endocrinological School and the perspectives for its future development. Its activities (in close cooperation with Lviv Regional Scientific and Medical Association of Endocrinologists) resulted in the elaboration of the latest methods of early diabetes diagnostics – piruvatemic, pyruvate, pyruvate dehydrogenase tests. The program for the diagnosis of congenital conditions and pathological disorders of the hormonal regulation of carbohydrate metabolism has been completed in full. Tomashevskyi Yarema Illich (born on December 3, 1929, village of Stetseva, Ivano-Frankivsk region) is one of the founders of the establishment and development of Lviv Scientific School of Endocrinology; he is an active member of T. Shevchenko Scientific Society, professor, Head of the Department of Endocrinology (1978-1999), alumni of the Medical Faculty of Lviv Medical University (1953), resident physician of the Department of Propaedeutic of the same institute (1953-1955), Head of therapeutic departments of Kamyanka-Buzka District Hospital and the 4th Hospital in Lviv (1955-1958); assistant (1965-1977), Associate Professor (1977-1978) of the Department of Therapy of the Faculty of Post-Graduate Education; Head (1978-1999), professor (since 1999) of the Department of Endocrinology and Clinical Pharmacology of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, Candidate of Medical Sciences (1962), MD (1974), Associate Professor (1977), professor (1979), President of Ukrainian International Academy of Preventive Medicine (з 1993), which became part of T. Shevchenko Scientific Society in 2006.
