Research progress on Pt-based catalysts for propane dehydrogenation reaction
Journal Title: Energy Environmental Protection - Year 2024, Vol 38, Issue 4
Abstract
Propylene is an important chemical raw material that is widely used in the production of polypropylene, acrylonitrile, propylene oxide, and other chemical products. It is also the basic raw material for the three major synthetic materials: Plastics, rubber, and fiber. Propane dehydrogenation (PDH) is an industrial technology attracting attention due to the growing demand for propylene and the large-scale extraction of shale gas. However, the active components of commercial platinum (Pt -based) catalysts currently face challenges such as sintering, agglomeration, carbon build-up, rapidly deactivation, and poor stability. Therefore, it is important to develop propane dehydrogenation catalysts with both high activity and high stability. In recent years, extensive research has been conducted on Pt-based catalysts for propane dehydrogenation. This review provides a brief overview of the research progress on Pt-based catalysts, focusing on tuning additive metals and carrier effects. Specifically, it explores how additives and carriers facilitate the formation of highly dispersed and stable active sites. Furthermore, the review presents future perspectives on the development of Pt-based catalysts for the propane dehydrogenation reaction.
