Review of the neurological manifestations of hepatitis E infection
Journal Title: Annals of Hepatology - Year 2012, Vol 11, Issue 5
Abstract
Hepatitis E (HEV) is a common infection worldwide and is an emerging disease in developed countries. The presence of extra-hepatic manifestation of HEV infection is important to bear in mind so that the diagnosis is not missed, since HEV is not routinely tested for in acute hepatitis due to perceived rarity of this infection outside of endemic countries. This article reviews the neurological presentations of acute and chronic HEV, and discusses the viral kinetics against symptomatology, and outcomes of specific treatment. Possible mechanisms of pathogenesis are considered.

Good outcomes of liver transplantation for hepatitis C at a low volume centre
Background and aims. Concerns exist about outcomes of liver transplantation (LT) from low volume centres, especially for hepatitis C (HCV) patients. The aim of the study was to assess patient outcomes as well as their pr...
Common SPINK-1 mutations do not predispose to the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is common in obese and diabetics. Serine protease inhibitor Kazal-1 (SPINK-1) protein is highly expressed in the liver and adipose tissue of diabetic and obese sugges...
Diagnostic significance of plasma osteopontin in hepatitis C virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma
Background and aim: Outcome of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) depends mainly on its early diagnosis. The performance of traditional biomarkers is not satisfactory. Osteopontin (OPN) is of potential importance. This study...
