Journal Title: Przegląd Wschodni - Year 2014, Vol 13, Issue 50
Abstract
From 1400–1900, the skirmunt line was one of many noble families in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. they did not belong to the magnate class of families residing in the Grand duchy of Lithuania and Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and its representatives did not participate in almost any significant political events up to the close of the 18th century; unable to influence the historical fate of the Belarusian and Lithuanian lands. the change came about only at the end of the aforementioned century, when the family transformed itself into a dynasty of well-known merchants operating in the russian Empire. the offspring of these merchants would become known as politicians active during the breakup of the russian Empire and the “geo-political revolution” in Eastern-Central Europe.
