ROLE OF GUGGULU KALPA IN VARIOUS DISEASES: A REVIEW

Abstract
Guggulu a very known and common name in the field of Ayurvedic practices which is used as important medicine for treating a lot of diseases. Apart from Anti- inflammatory and other Pharmacological actions, Guggulu is used as a blinder in an Ayurvedic tablet formulations. Guggulu is an Oleo-gum resin (oleo resin) that exudes spontaneously as a result of injury from the bark of Commiphora mukul hook. Ex stocks is belongs to the family Burseraceae. Guggulu is one of the ingredients of many commanding formulations used in the Ayurveda most of which are named with suffix ‘Guggulu.’ Guggulusterone is a main dynamic substance in gugulipid, an extract of the C.mukul, used to treat a selection of disorders in human. Ayurveda describe Guggulu as an Antiseptic, Anti-bacterial, Astringent and Anti-spasmodic as a carrier for other drugs. Allopathic confirms Anti-inflammatory and Hyperlipedaemic action of Guggulu. Guggulu Kalpa means tablets that contain equal/more amount of Guggulu as compared to amount of other ingredients. Ayurvedic textbooks describe formulae and method of preparation of different Guggulkalpa. In this review huge effort was made to collect the details of Guggulu and its unexplored Guggulukalpa used in Ayurvedic systems of medicine, several Guggulukalpa are used to different diseases. In this review various Guggulukalpa like Kaishor guggulu, Kanchanar guggulu, Triphala guggulu, Sinhanad guggulu, Yograj guggulu etc. Guggulukalpa use in various diseases and their dosage, kal etc. study.
