There are provided an analysis of the literature and own data on the work of self-management school on the basis of the clinic of State institution «Institute of Problems of Endocrine Pathology named after V.Ya. Danilevsky of National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine» (Kharkiv). The authors have evaluated the efficacy and identified the most critical aspects of the training system. There has been suggested the use of a structured program consisting of the basic questions of self-management; teaching in the form of a dialogue with the discussion of case reports and active participation of students in the process of consideration of problematic issues. It is noted that patients who had previously been trained in self-management schools, are more committed to the re-education and treatment. For patients with newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus it is suitable to visit self-management school along with their relatives.
