this paper is trying to underline the negative aspects of image loss and low self-esteem in the cases of patients with serious disabling chronic diseases (cardiovascular, advanced neoplasm, etc.) or who had suffered changes of their body appearance due to various surgical procedures (surgical stomas, amputations, etc.), and thus proving the necessity for communication in the patient – nurse relationship
