Safety of Navigation During Dynamic Positioning on Mobile Water Transport Objects
Journal Title: TransNav, the International Journal on Marine Navigation and Safety of Sea Transportation - Year 2016, Vol 10, Issue 1
Abstract
This paper presents an innovation methodology for quantity assessment the safety of dynamic positioning in locally confined area of technological work performance under nonlinear dynamic disturbances of environmental factors. The methodology is based on new integrated paradigm of prediction coordinated components interactions, which form dynamic positioning system. Proposed methodology implementation effect is based on the analysis of complex models that form the knowledge base. The comprehensive reserve of controllable thruster’s reactions was adopted as quantitative characteristic of dynamic positioning safety.

Prediction of Ship Resonant Rolling - Related Dangerous Zones with Regard to the Equivalent Metacentric Height Governing Natural Frequency of Roll
Potentially dangerous zones corresponding to dynamical stability phenomena, possibly encountered by ships sailing in rough sea, are estimated nowadays with the use of the method recommended by IMO in the guidance coded M...
Expanding the Possibilities of AIS Data with Heuristics
Automatic Identification System (AIS) is primarily used as a tracking system for ships, but with the launch of satellites to collect these data, new and previously untested possibilities are emerging. This paper presents...
Principles of Vessel Route Planning in Ice on the Northern Sea Route
A complex of ice cover characteristics and the season of the year were considered in relation to vessel route planning in ice-covered areas on the NSR. The criteria for navigation in ice - both year-round and seasonal we...
Arctic Shipping and Risks: Emergency Categories and Response Capacities
The sea ice in the Arctic has shrunk significantly in the last decades. The transport pattern has as a result partly changed with more traffic in remote areas. This change may influence on the risk pattern. The critical...
Earth Observation Opportunities to Enhance Maritime Safety
In this paper, author presents capabilities of using satellite data, both radar and optical images, to enhance maritime safety. The concept of using satellite data includes a periodic data acquisition from the European s...
