SAPPHO – A BEAUTIFUL AND MYSTERIOUS POETESS OF ANCIENT GREECE

Abstract
The article deals with Sappho, the most famous poetess of Ancient Greece. It focuses on her biography, the legends connected with her mysterious figure and analyzes her creative achivements. In literature, Sappho was the first to show the emotional state of a person, the inner world, to emphasize the beauty of the feeling of love and to express it without masking it with metaphors. She pioneered writing about a woman’s pure love, establishing her right to such a high and earthly sensation. Sappho’s lyrical works that have been studied make it possible to say that the words and feelings dating back to over than 2,500 years are just as relevant in our days.
