Abstract
The term ‘Magic’ is originated from Greak word ‘Mageia’ .A time was when magicians were associated with devil and occult from social point of view. Though the performance of magic and its practice is historical and very ancient .This art started to become evident during 18th century in India and eventually the nation would present some distinct magicians in later years .The profession of illusionist gained strength worldwide from 18th century onward and has enjoyed several popular vogues since. In Indian context magicians were often considered to be worker of legitimate mystical miracles not simply an entertainer in ancient period. West Bengal, Kerala, Karnataka and other parts of India have produced few great magicians like Prof. Bhagyanath, P.C. Sorkar, Chell but for past 100 years Sorkar family has mesmerized countless with their repertoire of tricks. Rope trick , Indian basket or Street magic got popularity regionally. Nowadays this ancient form of entertainment losing its demand and importance with rise of digital and tech-based need of entertainment. But Magic has the unlimited potential and capacity for creative remix if being patronage by state.
