SHORT FILM AS A MEDIUM FOR LANGUAGE LEARNING

Abstract
This article considers why short film can be a very effective resource for language teaching and learning. Its familiarity to students accustomed to audiovisual media; its flexibility to be meaningful to learners at varied ages and stages; its capacity for cross-cultural connectivity and content density, all combine to provide a resource which can be adapted for diverse topics and applied across curriculum subjects and objectives. Moving images are also important in their own right as a valuable part of our culture. The author outlines a number of techniques and approaches of using short film in modern language learning and provides online resources for activities available for getting the most out of film in the classroom.
