SKETCHES OF JEWELLERY AS A TOOL FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE STYLISTIC CHARACTERISTICS OF JEWELLERY ART OF THE NORTHERN RENAISSANCE AND MANNERISM

Abstract
The article is dedicated to the sketch graphic arts by the experts of the Northern Renaissance and Mannerism. Sketches for jewelelry, created as preparatory sheets for the subsequent transfer to the metal, are now a valuable material for the analysis of the style characteristics of the decorative art, crafts of the Renaissance and Mannerism of the North and can be perceived now as an self-valuable works. The graphic arts of that period were perceived as an auxiliary, secondary material only, and it was Renaissance, when it become possible to observe its formation as an self-valuable art form. Material, which at first served as a sketch, and has acquired the role of self-valuable works – sketches for jewellery today only, passed the same way. The special importance of such sheets by experts of Renaissance and Mannerism of the North is explained by the fact that today, thanks to them, we can not only analyze another role of famous artists – the role of jewellers, but also make a get more complete idea about the jewellery of the epoch, although many works have not reached our days. We emphasize that the object of the study of this article is not just jewellery but sketches for it as self-valuable graphic works. Graphic sheets by German, French, Flemish experts of the XV – beginning of XVIIth century and Italian Mannerist B. Cellini, who had French periods in his creative career, have been analyzed.
