Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the gift of a well-known scholar, philologist, historian, paleographer and pedagogue Victor Ivanovich Grigorovich (1815-1876) to the Library of Odessa University. Professor of the Kazan, Moscow and Odessa Universities, the first dean of the Faculty of History and Philology of the Novorossiyski University, a noted organizer of the higher education V. I. Grigorovich is considered to be one of the founders of Slavonic studies in Ukraine. The author reviewed the history of Slavonic library collecting, its acquisition by the Imperial Novorossiyski University. Particular attention is given to the process of formation of divisions as a part of the University library collection, its quantitative and qualitative composition. A number of books from Grigorovich’s collection is described the features of individual copies being indicated.
