The observation of 127 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) revealed significant sleep disturbances associated with rheumatoid process in comparison with 71 healthy persons. Particularly 83.5 % of patients with RA had sleep disturbances of various intensity with severe forms prevailing according to the scale for insomnia assessment in comparison with the parameters in health persons. 51.2 % patients noticed lack of night sleep and significant deterioration of the parameter on Visual Analoguе Scale for sleep estimation (47.5 ± 22.8 vs 9.7 ± 21.4 in health persons). It was determined that sleep disturbances in the patients with RA reliably correlates with activity and functional insufficiency parameters. A complex therapy with paroxetinum contributes to sleep quality normalization and significant decrease in incidence and severity of sleep disturbances.
