Sliding Friction and Wear Experiment of Wheel-Rail Materials

Journal Title: 河南科技大学学报(自然科学版) - Year 2018, Vol 39, Issue 6

Abstract

Taking the wheel CL60 steel and the rail U71 Mn steel as the research object, the sliding friction wear test of the wheel-rail materials was performed by using the pin-disk friction wear tester under different conditions, such as different metallographic structure, different sliding velocity and different contact stress. The results shows that the wear rate of wheel and rail is basically consistent with the change trend of metallographic structure under the different sliding velocity and contact stress. For a single microstructure friction pairs, the wear rate of the same structure friction pair is less than that of the dissimilar structure. The martensitic structure can reduce the wear rate of wheel and rail, while the pearlite structure can increase the wear rate of wheel and rail. With the increase of sliding speed or contact stress, the wear rate of wheel and rail gradually decreases and tends to be stable.
