SOCIAL CARE SUPPORT SERVICES IN ENGLAND FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS AND THEIR FAMILIES

Journal Title: Journal of Special Education and Rehabilitation - Year 2008, Vol 9, Issue 3

Abstract

This article discusses the need for specialist social care support for individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and their families. It outlines how services for this group have been developed in England, making particular reference to services in Northamptonshire, a local government area with a population of 650,000, where a coordinated multiagency approach has been beneficial to service development. The major challenges that remain in England with regard to social care support for this group are identified.
