Journal Title: Journal of the Human and Social Science Researches - Year 2015, Vol 4, Issue 3
Abstract
As a critic of the idea of Socialism, to which he had priorly tended for the solution of Turkey’s problems, Kemal Tahir defends that Socialism needs a reinterpretation according to Turkey’s social structure. With his local/native style of narrative Kemal Tahir’s efforts, which he made to get a local/ native style of narrative, comprise the main theme in his novels and essays. Touching upon Turkey’s journey of Westernization/Modernization, he emphasized the factitious nature of Turkish modernization process, many times. Given the fact that he was reacted both by Kemalist and also by leftist highbrowed authorities for his approach, one can see the importance of assessing his critics against the concepts of Westernization and Socialism. As Turkey’s process of modernization, socialism and liberal thought, i.e. the quest for solving Turkey’s development issue, is still an ongoing matter, it will be useful to review Tahir’s unique viewpoint.
