Sociology of sport in Europe – historic and research perspective

Abstract
This paper presents historical approach to the process of institution of sociology of sport. The author emphasizes its European character and lists its main research currents. He also draws attention to the quality and development of sociological studies on sport. The analysis is complemented by a list of most significant publications in the field.
