Solitary pulmonary nodule: An interesting clinical mimicry of pulmonary tuberculosis
Journal Title: Medical Journal Armed Forces - Year 2019, Vol 75, Issue 1
Abstract
Pulmonary histoplasmosis is regarded as an opportunistic/ saprophytic respiratory infection caused by a low pathogenic fungus and can be seen in both immunocompetent and immunosuppressed individuals. Histoplasma spreads via hematogenous route affecting the reticuloendothelial system.1 Tissue disease results from host immune response to dispersions of soluble antigen from these focal sources. Cytological imprint smears prepared from resected fresh pulmonary nodule show uniform, round to oval, 2e4 mm sized, budding yeast in intracellular and extracellular sites.
