Solubility enhancement of fenofibrate by modified locust bean gum using solid dispersion techniques
Journal Title: Asian Pacific Journal of Health Sciences - Year 2018, Vol 5, Issue 2
Abstract
Introduction: Modern techniques, such as high-throughput screening or combinatorial chemistry, facilitate the speedy identification of new, highly potent chemical entities. Very often new compounds exhibit higher molecular weights and lower water solubility compared to drugs already on the market. Fenofibrate is poorly water-soluble (BCS class II) drug. Aim and Objectives: The aim of present study was to develop an alternative carrier to reduce the production cost and toxic effects and enhance the solubility of fenofibrate. Results: The solid dispersions were prepared using modified locust bean gum using kneading and solvent evaporation method that increased in apparent solubility and the dissolution rate of fenofibrate.
