Journal Title: World Science - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 6

Abstract

Particularly the interest of Germany increased towards Transcaucasia during the period of First World War. Germany found itself facing difficult political dilemma. If it on the one hand tried to realize the own interests towards Caucasus through Ottoman people, on the other hand for the same purposes it sought for basis in Transcaucasia in the face of Georgia. After signing the Peace of Brest-Litovsky of March 3rd 1918, Ottoman Turkey required the transfer of Batumi Karsi and Artaani regions. But Transcauacias denied he requirement of Turkey. The Commissariat of Transcaucasia realized quite well that starting war with Ottoman Turkey was destined from the beginning, that’s why they tried to use diplomatic ways to settle conflict. Exactly this was followed by Trabzon and Batumi Peace Conferences. The events taken place in Batumi, in May 1918 convinced German delegation that nothing would obstruct the demolish of Transcaucasia Federation Republic. In May 25th they left conference and left Batumi by commercial ship “Mina-Horn.” The reason for leaving conference was ultimatum of May 26th claimed by Ottoman people, which was warned about by Halil Bey in advance. Ultimatum required much than it was considered under Brest Agreement. This prevented the interests of German in Transcaucasia.
