SOVIET STATE SECURITY AGENCIES AND REHABILITATION OF POLITICAL REPRESSION VICTIMS IN UKRAINE (1950–1980s)
Journal Title: Історичний архів. Наукові студії - Year 2017, Vol 0, Issue 19
Abstract
Due to political reasons hundreds of thousands of people were repressed during the Bolshevik terror in Ukraine. Their rehabilitation from the middle of 1950s was inconsistent and contradictory. Practically this process was realized by the same government bodies which organized these mass repressions. Soviet state security agencies were also involved into legal investigation of innocently convicted, gulagged and exe-cuted victims and their family members. This important page in history of Soviet Ukraine hasn’t been covered enough in the new Ukrainian historiography. Discovering of new sources allows to better research the process of rehabilitation of political repression victims, which is up-to-date for understanding of peculiarities of social and ethnocultural formation of Ukrainian society. Bas-ing on modern realities, the process of rehabilitation hasn’t finished even in independent Ukraine.
