STATE OF WATER IN NONCROSSLINKED AND CROSSLINKED HYDROGEL CHITOSAN MEMBRANES – DSC STUDIES
Journal Title: Progress on Chemistry and Application of Chitin and its Derivatives - Year 2011, Vol 0, Issue
Abstract
Modified chitosan hydrogel membranes were prepared using glutaraldehyde (GA) and sodium citrate (NaCIT) as crosslinking agents. Molecular and supermolecular structure analyses of unmodified and modified chitosan membranes have been conducted by FTIR and X-ray spectroscopy. FTIR results showed covalent and ionic crosslinks formation between chitosan (Ch) and GA or simultaneously Ch, GA and NaCIT. The state of water in noncrosslinked and crosslinked chitosan membranes were analysed by differential scanning spectroscopy (DSC). Three types of water in hydrogel membranes were found: non-freezing bound water, freezing bound water and freezing free water, while there were variations in the amount of non-freezing bound water in these polymers. The effect of ionic crosslinking on water state, mainly on the nonfreezing water content, was discussed.

PHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF CHITIN FROM CHITIN-PROTEIN COMPLEX OF VARIOUS STAGES OF MOLTING CYCLE OF KAMTCHATSKY CRAB (PARALITHODES CAMTCHATICUS) SHELL
The behavior of the chitin separated from the chitin-protein complex is more unique. The dependences of temperatures of its physical transitions on the stage of molting cycle are more clear and of an extremal character....
DEVELOPMENT OF FOOD IMPROVING CALCIUM-ENRICHED BIOACTIVE AGENTS PRODUCED FROM CHITINOUS WASTES GENERATED IN THE PROCESS OF AQUATIC ANIMAL PROCESSING
The CHIZITEL chitin-and-mineral complex is obtained from crustacean wastes. The BAA formula helping to facilitate calcium, phosphorus and magnesium fixation in the human body was found to be the result of this study. Thi...
ELECTROLYTIC METHOD FOR OBTAINING POROUS CHITOSAN STRUCTURES WITH HYDROXYAPATITE
The aim of this study was to develop a preparation method of porous chitosan structures, in the electrolysis of the chitosan solution in acetic acid. Chitosan in aqueous acetic acid is a polyelectrolyte. During the const...
CHITOSAN APPLIED FOR GYPSUM MODIFICATION
In order to improve the properties of gypsum materials, including workability, mechanical strength and ability to retain water, various admixtures (also polymers), known as plasticisers, have been applied. These polymers...
EVALUATION OF PREPARATIONS PHARMACEUTICAL SALAZOSULFAPIRIDIN DEPENDING USED FOOD SUPPLEMENTS CONTAINING CHITOSAN IN MODEL “IN VITRO”
An increase in sulfasalazine absorption on a polymer at increasing pH from 7.6 to 8.0 may be explained by the swelling properties of chitosan, which forms a conglomeration in the form of emulsion system. Basing on the ab...
