STATISTICAL DISTRIBUTIONS FOR PROBABILISTIC SEISMIC HAZARD ANALYSIS
Journal Title: ROMANIAN JOURNAL OF TECHNICAL SCIENCES - APPLIED MECHANICS - Year 2012, Vol 57, Issue 1
Abstract
The study of statistical distributions in the context of probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) provides a convenient support for understanding and application of PSHA specific procedures. This approach also provides a useful insight on relevant aspects of probability theory with application to seismic hazard. The geometric, exponential, binomial and Poisson distributions along with their proofs are introduced within the seismic hazard framework. These distributions represent the main tools for handling probabilistic hazard data as they are essential for assessing the probability of exceedance of the hazard parameter within a certain exposure period of structural system.

UNIFIED SLENDERNESS LIMITS FOR STRUCTURAL STEEL CIRCULAR HOLLOW SECTIONS
Circular hollow sections (CHS) are widely used in a range of structural engineering applications. The sections may be hot-finished or cold-formed from a variety of metallic materials with a range of yield strengths. The...
INTERNAL FORCES IN DYNAMICS OF A TRANSLATIONAL 3-PUU PARALLEL ROBOT
Matrix relations in dynamics analysis of a spatial 3-PUU translational parallel manipulator are established in this paper. Giving the evolution of the platform, an inverse dynamic problem is solved based on a set of recu...
A SPECIAL CLASS OF DRIP MEDIA WITH HYSTERESIS
Since the interaction phenomenon for waves of arbitrary shape and amplitude is a property of the transmitting medium rather than of the particular wave profiles, Seymour and Varley named as DRIP the media that do not rem...
AN ABSTRACT PATTERN FOR SOME DYNAMICAL MODELS
Previously, several models from mechanics and physics were found that satisfy the same polynomial equation, whose coefficients are purely abstract. These models are: the nonlinear pendulum, the Bernoulli-Euler bar, P.P....
MODELING THE EVOLUTION OF FATIGUE FAILURE WITH PERIDYNAMICS
Holes and round notches are locations where fatigue cracks may arrest. Investigating the evolution of fatigue cracks after sinking into such a hole is important. Here we extend a recently proposed fatigue crack peridynam...
