STATISTICAL RELATION OF TRAVELING IONOSPHERIC DISTURBANCES WITH NEUTRAL WIND AND DISTURBANCES IN THE STRATOSPHERE
Journal Title: Solar-Terrestrial Physics - Year 2022, Vol 8, Issue 4
Abstract
Using the representative statistics on traveling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs) obtained by Yekaterinburg and Magadan radars, we have shown that distributions of TIDs and average TID velocities by azimuths and local time agree well with the hypothesis on internal gravity wave (IGW) filtering by the neutral wind. We have examined the influence of significant winter sudden stratospheric warmings on IGW in the ionosphere. A method has been proposed for estimating zonal and meridional neutral wind velocities from MSTID parameters. The method is universal and allows us to estimate the zonal and meridional neutral wind velocities from the statistics on MSTID 2D phase velocity vector obtained by any tool. There is a large amount of data from which MSTID 2D phase velocity vector (as opposed to the 3D phase velocity vector) can be derived, including maps of TEC disturbances and all-sky camera images. This method may therefore be useful in developing and improving neutral wind models.

IONOSPHERIC EFFECTS OF TWO SOLAR FLARES IN THE MAXIMUM OF SOLAR CYCLE 23 AND IN THE MINIMUM OF SOLAR CYCLE 24
Using data from the GPS and GLONASS navigation satellite systems, we analyze the responses of the mid-latitude ionosphere to the extreme solar flares that occurred at the maximum of solar cycle 23 (October 28, 2003) and...
STUDYING AURORAL ACTIVITY USING THE SME INDEX AT THE MAGNETIC STORM MAIN PHASE DURING CIR AND ICME EVENTS
In this paper, we examine the relationship of the SME index with magnetic storm characteristics and interplanetary medium parameters during the main phase of magnetic storms caused by CIR and ICME events. Over the period...
FEATURES OF THE INITIAL STAGE OF FORMATION OF FAST CORONAL MASS EJECTION ON FEBRUARY 25, 2014
We have analyzed the fast coronal mass ejection (CME) that occurred on February 25, 2014. The analysis is based on images taken in the 131, 211, 304, and 1700 Å UV channels of the SDO/AIA instrument and from observations...
QUASI-PERIODIC OSCILLATIONS OF SMALL-SCALE MAGNETIC STRUCTURES AND A SPECIFIC METHOD FOR MEASURING THE DIFFERENTIAL ROTATION OF THE SUN
The SDO/HMI data with an angular resolution of 1 arcsec have been used to explore the differential rotation on the Sun, using an original “p2p” effect on the basis of the movement of small-scale magnetic structures in th...
POSSIBLE DIFFERENCE IN THE FORMATION OF CORONAL MASS EJECTIONS OF TWO TYPES
Analysis of seven near-limb coronal mass ejections (CMEs) has shown that at distances R<1.4R from the center of the Sun CMEs according to their formation can be divided into two types: type 1 CMEs and type 2 CMEs. In th...
