Journal Title: Shanghai Journal of Preventive Medicine - Year 2023, Vol 35, Issue 12
Abstract
ObjectiveTo analyze the visual status and its influencing factors among preschool children in Tongzhou District.MethodsFrom March to August 2022ï¼ a stratified cluster sampling was used to include 2 199 preschool children as study subjects. Visual acuity examination and parental questionnaire surveys were conductedï¼ and a multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors for visual abnormalities.ResultsThe detection rate of abnormal naked-eye vision among 2 199 students was 13.60%. The rates of visual abnormalities in children aged 4ï¼ 5ï¼ and 6 were 9.02%ï¼ 18.01%ï¼ and 11.82%ï¼ respectively. Multivariate logistic regression revealed that compared with boysï¼ children between 4 and 5 years oldï¼ children who first played with electronic products at the age of â¥4 ï¼ those with good home lightingï¼ those who often/always took a break and looked into the distance after using your eyes for 30 minutesï¼ those who never watched TV at a distance < 2 metersï¼ and children with parental knowledge-attitude-practice ï¼KAPï¼ scores above 0.7ï¼ girls ï¼OR=1.411ï¼95%CIï¼ 1.095â1.819ï¼ï¼ children between 5 and 6 years old ï¼OR=2.303ï¼95%CIï¼ 1.726â3.071ï¼ ï¼ children who first played with electronic products under 4 years old ï¼OR=2.464ï¼95%CIï¼ 1.120â5.424ï¼ï¼ those with poor home lighting environment ï¼OR=2.229ï¼95%CIï¼ 1.295â3.835ï¼ï¼ those who never ï¼OR=1.862ï¼95%CIï¼1.115â3.110ï¼ or occasionally/ sometimes ï¼OR=1.997ï¼95%CIï¼1.268â3.145ï¼ took a break and looked into the distance after using your eyes for 30 minutesï¼ those who watched TV occasionally/sometimes at a distance < 2 meters ï¼OR=1.369ï¼95%CIï¼ 1.011â1.855ï¼ï¼ and those with parental KAP scores under 0.7 ï¼OR=1.780ï¼95%CIï¼ 1.005â3.155ï¼ had a higher risk of abnormal visual acuity.ConclusionThe prevalence of abnormal visual acuity in preschool children is highï¼ and there are multiple influencing factors. Attention should be paid to vision screening and healthy eye-use behavior education for preschool children to reduce the occurrence of visual abnormalities.
