Stories of Technology and Livelihood Pre-Service Teachers’ Utilization of Learning Materials During Blended Learning

Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2024, Vol 20, Issue 9

Abstract

Teaching and learning materials are resources used by educators to facilitate learning in different educational environments. This study aimed to investigate the Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) pre-service teachers’ utilization of learning materials during the blended learning modality. Specifically, it explored their experiences which focused on the context, challenges and coping strategies. It employed qualitative research design, specifically a narrative inquiry design that sought to figure out their experiences. The data were collected through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) from 5 BTLE pre-service teachers in a private school in Cagayan de Oro City in the school year 2022-2023 and analyzed through Braun and Clarke’s (2006) thematic method. Findings revealed that the contexts of their lived experiences of utilization of learning materials in blended learning revealed themes namely: academic resourcefulness, and technology literacy. Moreover, their challenges encountered include ineffective video presentation, inadequate learning materials and lack of availability of learning materials. However, it was revealed that they cope with those challenges through employing teaching strategies, embracing flexibility, demonstrating passion for teaching, relying on support systems, practicing self-discipline, and effective time management. These findings highlight the importance of equipping pre-service teachers with the necessary skills and resources to navigate blended learning environments successfully.
