Strength and modulus of elasticity of thermally modified pine structural timber

Abstract

Strength and modulus of elasticity of thermally modified pine structural timber. This paper presents the results of determination of some physical and mechanical properties of thermally modified pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) structural timber. The process of thermo-modification was performed in the atmosphere of superheated steam in a temperature of 200°C. Strength and modulus of elasticity were determined for bending and compression perpendicular to the grain. The results indicate potential usefulness of thermally modified pine wood in structural applications in exterior conditions. Keywords:
