STUDY NEEDS GROUNDED ON ADVANCED LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE STANDPOINT OF ELECTRONIC SERVICE CONSUMERS

Abstract
Under the entrenchment of the information technologies in the entire life areas, needs and problems of the information society are perceived progressively. The majority of everyday matters, which heretofore had to be arranged travelling from one institution into another one and filling piles of various documents in, has been transferred into the virtual space. Therefore, naturally a demand has emerged to survey the development of the electronic services (hereinafter e-services) in the e-services-for-the-education-and-science-in-Lithuania context as well as to present the results of the performed research during that it was aimed at the identification which e-services were most often used by the students, what encouraged or interfered to use them efficiently and what influence choosing e-services appropriate for the education and science was made by the usage of the e-services not related to the studies or the science in this article. The aim of the article is to reveal study needs of the students, the main representatives of the education and science institutions, as the consumers of the electronic services; the above needs grounded on the advanced technologies choosing the electronic education services as well as the electronic teaching aids in the case of Utena University of Applied Sciences. The following objectives have been enunciated for the achievement of the presented aim: to review recently provided e-services in Lithuania and their development in the context of the e-services appropriate for the education and science, to present the e-services most often used by the students as well as the motives of using them or causes of failing to embrace them in the case of Utena University of Applied Sciences; to evaluate the influence of the students‘ usage of the public e-services on selecting electronic learning services and means during the studies. Methods. Analysis of the references, documents, performed researches as well as websites, questionnaire assessment (survey). Comparative analysis of the statistical data has been performed by IBM SPSS Statistics v.22 program packet. The subject matter of the research is the needs of the first-year and the second-year students of Utena University of Applied Sciences as the e-services consumers choosing electronic studies and electronic learning means. Obtained results and conclusions: the number of the students using the Internet for the study purposes is not high comparing to the number of the students who benefit from the handling of the e-services designed for the communication and e-commerce. However, the access of the e-services is assured by the opportunity of the majority of the students to use the Internet at home. Only a moderate part of the first-year and the second-year students do experience inconveniences using e-services, though the above inconveniences do not influence on the choice of not only public but and necessary-for-the-studies e-services. The selection of electronic services and learning means by the students of Utena University of Applied Sciences does not depend on the study field, the gender and the study experience of the respondents. The following disadvantages of the e-services and the electronic learning means use are distinguished: the lack of the IT operation skills and the face-to-face meetings with the peers and the academic staff, the technical obstacles, the students‘ failure to study independently, the decreasing study motivation, the deteriorating literacy, the possible dishonesty, the eye fatigue as well as the lack of motivation.
