Study of ATD angle in epileptic patients- A parameter in palmar dermatoglyphics
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Clinical Anatomy and Physiology - Year 2018, Vol 5, Issue 3
Abstract
Introduction Dermatoglyphics is the study of quantitative and qualitative patterns of ridge in palms and soles It is being investigated in diseases having genetic basisThe recent evidence from adoption studies has provided a basis for the genetic contribution in generalized tonic clonic seizures The parameter taken is ATD Angle and measured and compared between cases and controlsObjectives To study the ATD angle in palmar dermatoglyphic patterns in generalized tonic clonic seizure patients To compare dermatoglyphic angle of cases with the normal populationMaterials and Methods The ink method was followed to take palm prints The palmar prints of 50 epileptic patients and 50 normal individuals of both sexes were collected for the study ATD angle was measured and compared with normalResults ATD angle is increased in both right and left hands of combined series of male and female epileptics and only in left hand of female epileptics which is statistically significantInterpretation and Conclusion There is significant difference in the epileptic patients in variousdermatoglyphic features when compared to controls One of them is with respect to ATD angle Hence it is possible to identify at risk population with the help of dermatoglyphicsKeywords Dermatoglyphics Epilepsy ATD angle

An anatomical study of coraco-acromial falx in Indian population
Background and Objectives: Coraco-acromial ligament is one of the causes in the development of the subacromial impingement syndrome and its morphology shows variation. Most commonly coraco-acromial ligament has two disti...
Lobulated spleen with a fissure on diaphragmatic surface
During my dissection classes, a bi-lobed and large lobulated spleen with a deep vertical fissure measuring 2cms deep was observed. Fissure is in between superior and inferior border i.e. in diaphragmatic surface. As it i...
Efficacy of yogic practices on various physiological parameters during examination stress in young adult females
Background: There is considerable evidence that medical students are suffering from levels of distress which are higher than those of general population. Scientific evidence supports the belief that yoga benefits physica...
P wave Morphology and Dispersion in asymptomatic obese young adults – A comparative cross-sectional study
Background: Considerable variations in the P wave morphology are noted in association with obesity. Standard 12-lead ECG is still considered to be the initial screening test for non-invasive detection of cardiovascular c...
