Abstract

Background: Present UHC comes in an urban slum area and majority of STI OPD patients were women suffering from leucorrhoea. Leucorrhoea is one of the most common STI which remains untreated in majority of the patients and hence studied here. Materials and Methodology: A longitudinal study was conducted on 119 leucorrhoea patients selected by universal sampling method. Study participants were leucorrhoea patients attending STI clinic at an UHC, being administered syndromic management kit- 1 or 2 or both and willing to participate in the study and given informed consent. A microscopic examination of gram stain and wet mount of discharge was done. Study period was two months March 2012 to Apr 2012. Results and Conclusion: Relief of symptoms was found in 24.4% in current population. The most common infection among 119 women was bacterial vaginosis which was found in 47 (39.5%) women. Poor perineal hygiene was significantly associated with leucorrhoea; however marital status, sexual activity and literacy were not associated with it. The most common symptom associated with leucorrhoea was back pain (71.4%) followed by foul smelling discharge (40.3%) followed by Itching (35.3%). Perineal hygiene was found to be an important determinant of recovery of patient. Syndromic management kit for leucorrhoea was not found effective treatment method in current study participants and alternative regimen should be sought.
