Study on Root Characteristics of Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) Genotypes for Moisture Stress
Journal Title: International Journal of Plant & Soil Science - Year 2017, Vol 18, Issue 5
Abstract
The size and distribution of root system of Sugarcane genotypes in response to moisture stress during formative stage at Agricultural Research Station, Basanthpur, Medak, Telanagana was found significant. Deeper root system as seen in the form of rope roots was observed only with the varieties, Co 95020, Co 87025 and Co 94012 indicating their ability to explore more soil space. The other root parameters viz., shoot to root ratio, root volume, root length and root dry weight were significantly high for Co 95020 and low for Co 8014 categorizing them as drought tolerant and drought susceptible varieties, respectively.
Estimation of Optimum Plot Size and Shape from a Uniformity Trial for Field Experiment with Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) Crop in Soil of Hisar
A study of uniformity trial for assessing the nature and magnitude of soil variability and to determine the optimum size and shape of plots was conducted on 66A507 Pioneer hybrid of Sunflower crop at Research Farm of CCS...
Soil Management and Fertilizer Use Practices in Smallholder Plantain Production Systems
The depletion of soil nutrients and organic matter as accentuated by the non-adoption of appropriate soil management practices is one cause of the yield decline that compels farmers to abandon plantain orchards after...
The Water Infiltration, Hydraulic Conductivity and Water Retention Effects of Ground Soapwort (Saponaria officinalis L.) Root as a Soil Surfactant
Climate change is affecting precipitation patterns and intensity; increasing regional drought conditions and increasing runoff, respectively. The use of soil surfactants presents an opportunity to improve soil water cont...
Effect of N, Zn and B Levels on Yield, N, Zn and B Concentration, Uptake and N Use Efficiency in Maize –Wheat Sequence in a Vertisol
A field experiment was conducted during 2010-12 at Research Farm of Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) to study the effect of levels of N (0, 60, 120 and 180 kg ha-1), Zn (0, and 10 kg ha...
