Study on the relationship between ribosome-binding protein 1 and prognosis of epithelial ovarian cancer

Journal Title: Journal of Air Force Medical University - Year 2023, Vol 44, Issue 9

Abstract

Objective To study the expression of ribosome-binding protein 1 (RRBP1) in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and its relationship with clinical features and prognosis. Methods Tumor tissue specimens of 106 EOC patients were analyzed in this retrospective study. The mRNA expression level of RRBP1 was detected by qRT-PCR, and the protein expression of RRBP1 was detected by immunohistochemistry. The clinical data were collected to analyze the relationship between RRBP1 and clinicopathological features and prognosis. Results RRBP1 was highly expressed in EOC (P < 0. 001). The expression of RRBP1 was significantly correlated with tumor FIGO staging (P < 0. 001), histological grade (P = 0. 023), histological type (P = 0. 004) and lymph node metastasis (P = 0. 011). However, there was no significant association with patient age (P = 0. 391) or the level of preoperative carbohydrate antigen 125 (P = 0. 242). Univariate analysis showed that the prognosis of EOC patients was related to patient age, FIGO staging and the expression level of RRBP1 (P < 0. 05). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that the expression level of RRBP1 significantly affected the overall survival (OS, P = 0. 014) or disease-free survival (DFS, P = 0. 032) of patients. Univariate survival analysis showed that patient age and tumor FIGO staging were also associated with patient prognosis ( P < 0. 05 ) . Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that the expression level of RRBP1 was an independent risk factor for OS (95% CI: 1. 327 - 4. 225, P = 0. 009) and DFS (95% CI: 1. 467 - 3. 219, P = 0. 007) in EOC patients. Conclusion RRBP1 can be used as a critical marker of EOC and also has the potential to become a potential tumor therapeutic target.
