Study on the use of information and communication technologies to improve educational quality
Journal Title: RHS-Revista Humanismo y Sociedad - Year 2021, Vol 9, Issue 1
Abstract
This article summarizes the findings of a research study about the use of pedagogical strategies mediated by Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in teaching and learning processes of educational institutions in Urabá (Colombia). A mixed qualitative research method was used (QUAL/QUAN) with a descriptive-relational scope. Document review instruments, questionnaires, tests, interviews and focus groups were used. In addition, both an initial and a final diagnostic phase were developed for comparative measurement, as well as a series of pedagogical activities that facilitate teachers’ acquisition of ICT skills for their classroom practices. One of the main findings was that the use of ICT in educational processes allows for strengthening of digital competencies as well as for improvement of academic performance results. However, ICT-education integration must be supported by a solid pedagogical strategy, complemented by the fulfillment of other requirements such as the provision of technological infrastructure in schools, the technical and pedagogical training of teachers and the improvement of government policies.
