Abstract
Paper dwells upon the postindustrial challenges to the Ukrainian education system and possible directions for its improvement for adequate response, taking into account the needs of the national economy. It is assumed that the focus of such an improvement should be the relevance of education in the labor market, which is currently lacking (it is proved that in the domestic labor market, the supply of higher education of the employed economicallyactive population exacerbates employment in professional groups with the demand for such education; the surplus is distributed by professional groups, where such education is not needed; in vocational groups where vocational education is predominantly required, there is a shortage of employed workers with such education). Authors suggest directions for improvement Ukrainian education – modernization of the state educational policyin favor of economic growth in the form of purposeful assistance to the development of a national lifelong learning system.
