SURGICAL STRATEGY OF PORTAL VEIN TUMOR THROMBOSIS IN PATIENTS WITH HEPATOCELLULAR CARCINOMA
Journal Title: European Journal of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 11
Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma is a common primary liver malignancy. Portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT) is one of the common complication of HCC compare to hepatic vein thrombosis and inferior venacava thrombosis because HCC has a propensity to invade portal vein. Prognosis is extremely and gravely poor in HCC patient with PVTT. No standard guideline has been recommended for the treatment except sorafenib in Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) system. However, multidisciplinary approach has been advised for its management. Surgical resection, TACE, radiotherapy, molecular targeted therapy, systematic chemotherapy, local therapy are the different treatment modalities. Combination therapy results show better outcome than single therapy. This review paper mainly discusses about the surgical strategy and PUBMED database has been searched for the references.
