Journal Title: Revista Uningá - Year 2021, Vol 58, Issue 1

Abstract

The present study saught to gather data about the biopsy procedures performed at the Dental Clinic of Paranaense University – Francisco Beltrão Campus, in order to determine the number of biopsies performed in the last six years as well AS the number of times the diagnostic hypothesis was confirmed. This is a retrospective, quantitative, documentary and descriptive field research, collecting secondary data indirectly through dental records and biopsy records available from university archives, data that were analyzed and later presented in the form of academic course completion work. The results were obtained through a sample equivalent to 51 records and the most common pathologies were Inflammatory Fibrous Hyperplasia and Epithelial Tissue Atypias. The diagnostic hypothesis was confirmed from the histological report in most cases, totaling 66%. It was concluded that the dental surgeons’ knowledge regarding oral lesions to indicate complementary exams, choice of appropriate biopsy technique and correct therapeutic decision is indispensable and determinant for patients' prognosis.
