Table Tennis Training Influencing on cognitive Ability in elderly Women with mild Cognitive Impairment
Journal Title: The 1st Annual Meeting of Georgian Center for Neuroscience Research - Year 2020, Vol 2, Issue 20
Abstract
According to evidence, one of the most important factors appear to reduce the rate of cognitive decline in aging is the participation in exercise. And based of recent research findings, table tennis provides an ideal context for examining the effects of cognitive impairment. Therefore, this research aim to examine Table tennis training influencing on cognitive ability in elderly women with mild cognitive impairment. A total of 60 elderly women were randomly divided into training group (n = 30) and control group (n = 30). The mini-mental state examination (MMSE) score and abilities of daily living scale (ADL) score before, after 3-month, and after 6-month intervention period was measured. The results showed that MMSE score was increased and ADL score was decreased in training group after 3-month and 6- month intervention (P < 0.05), while changes in MMSE or ADL in control group (P£3/40.05) were not significant. The findings showed that table tennis training can improve cognitive ability in elderly women with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Since, improvement of MCI is helpful to prevent from increased risk of progressing into AD
