Teachers' Views on the Effect of Preschool Education on Success in Primary Education

Abstract
This research is made for determining the effects of pre-school education on the success in primary school. The population of the research consists of classroom teachers working in the city center of Diyarbakır in 2010-2011 educational year. The sample of the research consists of randomly-chosen the classroom teachers working in the city center of Diyarbakır. The research is a descriptive survey model. The questionnaire, which has personal information, thirty-nine items at the type of 5-likert was prepared by the researcher to collect the necessary data. A preapplication was made for the questionnaire and after the necessary validity and reliability studies, two items which were found” omit table” were omitted. The questionnaire form was applied to four hundred classroom teachers which are randomlyselected from the classroom teachers working in the city center of Diyarbakır. However, three hundred of them have come back and the data were collected by evaluating three hundred ten questionnaires after omitting the questionnaires which are not suitable for evaluation. The data which were obtained were analyzed statistically by the “SPSS for Windows” computer programme. When the results are examined, it has been seen that the classroom teachers have the positive ideas about the preschool education and agree with the effects of the pre-school education on the success in primary school. The teachers point out that there can be easily seen differences between the ones who have experienced the pre-school education and the ones who don’t get the education as social aspect as the success and the attribution to the experiences of learning. As a result of the research, it can be reached that pre-school education affects the children’s social, physical, cognitive, ethical and language development in addition to academic success positively. Besides, the teachers clarify that the necessary importance and participation haven’t been supplied yet and they suggest that necessary studies should be made to maximize the participation of both parents, educationalists, and authorized people.
