Tele-Economics in MTC: what numbers would not show
Journal Title: EAI Endorsed Transactions on Internet of Things - Year 2015, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
This paper elaborates on the relevance of Tele-Economic research to understand the effect that Machine-Type Commu- nications (MTC) has on different markets and also the market forces affecting the adoption of services based on MTC. The paper is presented in a tutorial form, offering concept and definitions of economic terms that are gaining relevance in the technical community in the MTC context. The concept of services is further analysed in as a change in the tele- communication industry mind-set in order to tap into the economic value of MTC in the realization of the Internet-of- Things. Finally, insights are presented looking forward into the relevance of Tele-Economic research for 5G.

Optimal sleep-state control of energy-aware M/G/1 queues
We study the problem of optimally controlling the use of sleep states in an energy-aware M/G/1 queue. In our model, we consider a family of policies where the server upon becoming idle can wait for a random period before...
Cooperative Awareness in the Internet of Vehicles for Safety Enhancement
Connected vehicles will improve safety and enable new services to drivers and passengers. One of the main enabled services will be the cooperative awareness, that is the broadcast transmission of periodic messages contai...
On mean waiting time completeness and equivalence of EDD and HOL-PJ dynamic priority in 2-class M/G/1 queue
This paper identifies two different parametrized dynamic priority queue disciplines, earliest due date (EDD) based and head of line priority jump (HOL-PJ), which are found to be mean waiting time complete in two class M/...
Platforms and Protocols for the Internet of Things
Building a general architecture for the Internet of Things (IoT) is a very complex task, exacerbated by the extremely large variety of devices, link layer technologies, and services that may be involved in such a system....
Introducing Neuroberry, a platform for pervasive EEG signaling in the IoT domain
The emergence of inexpensive off-the-shelf wireless EEG devices led researchers to explore novel paradigms in the field of Human Computer Interaction. In fact, the compliance of these devices with the IoT principles towa...
