Abstract

Special economic zones in Poland originated in 1995. Since that time, they have attracted multibillion investments, which not only created new jobs, but also caused their territorial enlargement. However, it should be emphasized that special zones are privileged areas sectioned off from the land owned by the state and given more favourable conditions to trade. All investors operating in the zones obtained numerous concessions as; tax deductions, property tax deductions, they are also provided with different forms of financial support. Activity of zones generates both, huge profits as well as costs. Unfortunately, after all these years of zones presence in the Polish economy, no instruments have been introduced which could allow to balance properly all profits and losses of zones’ functioning in Poland.
