Textsortenspezifische Lexik in deutschen polnischen gerichtlichen Entscheidungen als Herausforderung für den Übersetzer

Abstract
The issues of legal text translation are reflected in court ruling translations. The purpose of this article is to present the nature of legal translation and to address the characteristic properties of Polish and German court rulings. This confrontative analysis covers Polish and German rulings in civil and criminal cases. They come primarily from the publication Wybór niemieckich i polskich dokumentów do ćwiczeń translacyjnych by J. Iluk and A. Kubacki. Great emphasis is placed on exploring concrete terminological issues encountered by translators when translating such documents. Furthermore, the article introduces the issues of translatorial strategies used in legal text translations. The analysis shows that a legal translator must have at least basic knowledge of law and use parallel texts in his work.
