The ancient thought and analytic philosophy: Porphyry’s logic of predication in the light of Russell’s type theory

Abstract

The article deals with some aspects of Porphyry’s logical theory of predication within the context of Russell’s type theory. The author considers kindred problematic issues of some ancient logical traditions and modern analytic philosophy. The Porphyry’s concept of universal predication is compared with the Russell’s doctrine of types. The work has shed some light on the number of unexplored aspects of Porphyry’s logic. The article focuses on the awakening of academic interest to the logical ideas of Porphyry.
