THE APPLICATION OF GROUND PENETRATING RADAR (GEORADAR) FOR SHALLOW ANTHROPOGENIC CHANGES IN THE SUBSOIL

Abstract
The purpose of the research conducted in the region of Iwonicz-Zdrój was to obtain the information concerning the applicability of the GPR method for defi ning anthropologically altered, near-surface geological layers, which are very common in the entire area of Przedkarpacie sink hole. From the fourteen points which were selected in the research area using the GPS method, six GPR points determining the probable localization of dug wells were chosen. In total, 24 measurement profi les were made using the Ground Penetrating Radar [i]Detector Duo[/i]. GPR surveys revealed series of interesting anomalies, often diffi cult for equivocal interpretation.. In the research area, apart from natural facies changes, the infl uence of human activity is also very noticeable – mining excavations, which disturb the primary arrangement of geological strata.
